June Workshop: Mastering Production Management for Food SMEs
Amidst the rapid growth of Indonesia’s food and beverage industry, many food SMEs still face significant challenges that hinder their growth. Beyond capital and marketing limitations, a common issue is the lack of technical understanding in production management. Many small businesses still rely on traditional methods, lacking systematic production planning, raw material efficiency calculations, and proper food safety standards. As a result, they struggle to increase production capacity, maintain product quality consistency, and meet increasingly complex market demands.
To strengthen the capabilities of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector, PT Magfood Inovasi Pangan hosted a specialized “Production Management Training for Food SMEs” on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at its headquarters in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta. The event was attended by food industry entrepreneurs, academics, and SME owners from Jakarta and surrounding areas.
This event is part of Magfood’s ongoing commitment to empowering food SMEs to survive, grow, and compete in both domestic and global markets. Featuring experienced experts and practitioners, this training serves as a practical and applicable learning platform for small business owners.
Magfood’s Production Management Workshop for Food SMEs
Magfood organized a paid workshop on Production Management for Food SMEs designed to help entrepreneurs develop and scale their businesses. The training was led by Mrs. Yanti, CEO and Founder of PT Magfood Amazy Internasional, and was attended by over 10 participants. The workshop took place at Amazy Family Resto in South Jakarta on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
In this intensive session, participants learned the critical importance of professional production management for sustainable growth. Key topics included Food Business Legality, Production Management, and SOP Development.
The Goals and Benefits of Production Management
Production management is the process of managing resources—labor, equipment, and raw materials—to create products efficiently, on time, and with consistent quality. For food SMEs, its primary goals are:
- Ensuring Product Quality: Maintaining consistency in taste, texture, color, size, and appearance.
- Increasing Production Efficiency: Optimizing the use of raw materials, time, and labor to minimize costs without sacrificing quality.
- Reducing Waste: Minimizing production waste, such as spoiled raw materials, waiting times, overproduction, or inefficient labor.
- Guaranteeing Food Safety and Hygiene: Implementing hygiene and sanitation standards (like GMP and HACCP) to ensure products are safe for consumption.
- Aligning Production with Market Demand: Helping SMEs plan production to avoid overproduction or stock-outs.
- Supporting Business Legality and Certification: Standardized and documented processes simplify audits for Halal, BPOM, or SPP-IRT certifications.
- Preparing for Business Scalability: A professional production system makes SMEs ready to increase capacity, enter modern retail, or open new branches.
Concrete Benefits for Your Food Business
By implementing effective production management, food SMEs can achieve tangible results:
| Benefit | How It Helps Your Business Grow |

| Controlled Production Costs | Efficient management prevents waste of raw materials, excess labor, and unnecessary operational costs. |
| Increased Consumer Trust | Safe, clean, and high-quality products make consumers more confident and loyal in the long run. |
| Easier Monitoring | A documented system allows for easy evaluation of workflows and calculation of unit production costs. |
| Faster Certification | Standard-compliant SMEs find it easier to obtain business permits like BPOM and Halal certification. |
| Ready for Modern Retail | A robust production system helps meet the high standards of supermarkets, minimarkets, and online marketplaces. |
| Measurable Production Growth | Good planning allows you to increase output without sacrificing quality or creating operational chaos. |
| Reduced Risk of Failure | Quality control minimizes the risk of failed batches or unsalable products that cause financial loss. |
| Improved Employee Productivity | Clear SOPs, schedules, and targets lead to more focused and efficient work from your team. |
| Foundation for Innovation | An organized system makes it easier to develop new products (R&D) with clear cost and capacity estimates. |
In addition to the presentation by Mrs. Yanti, the event featured a Cooking Demo in collaboration with Amazy Frozen Food and Magfood Seasoning Powders. This session provided product knowledge on using Magfood’s seasoning powders and offered new recipe ideas for the participants’ food businesses.
Long-Term Impact on the SME Sector
Improving production management competency has a massive impact on the sustainability and growth of SMEs. With a more organized, efficient, and quality-driven system, entrepreneurs can:
- Reduce material and time waste.
- Improve product quality consistency.
- Meet legal requirements for product distribution (BPOM, Halal).
- Penetrate modern retail and e-commerce markets with confidence.
- Scale up their business with proper capacity planning.
In the long term, programs like this will help enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian local products. Indonesian food SMEs will be known not only for their distinctive flavors but also for their professional and sustainable production standards.
